Justice League: Snyder Cut Exists In ‘Relevant Form’

By

In the newest, and most bizarre, turn of events related to the fabled original “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, a new source is claiming that the cut doesn’t only exist, but it has “a lot of finished FX and music.” The rumors of an eventual Snyder cut of Justice League first arose shortly after the announcement that Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara had mandated a 2 hour run time. At that time, those involved were still insisting that Joss Whedon was merely completing Snyder’s original vision for Justice League (which we now know isn’t true), so the idea of a longer Ultimate Edition, as was seen with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceseemed like a natural expectation.

Once the movie was released and it was apparent that not only had Snyder’s tone been significantly adjusted, but Whedon’s reshoots had also drastically simplified the story and removed a number of elements that had been seen in the trailers. Knowing significant changes had been made, combined with the fact that the movie was a critical and financial failure out the gate, calls for a true Snyder cut quickly escalated.

Considering Snyder exited Justice League’sproduction before typical reshoots would even occur, it’s not typical for any sort of usable cut to exist at that time outside of a basic assembly cut with unfinished music and effects, and it was recently reported by one source that a Snyder cut would never be released, while another said assembly cut is, in fact, all that exists, with minimal effects and music, in a condition that would cost “millions” to get to any sort of completed shape, but not the mod team on the DC_Cinematic Reddit page is reporting otherwise.

Justice League: Snyder Cut Exists In Relevant Form

Typically Reddit rumors are difficult to verify. It’s an anonymous board, and it’s not uncommon for users to post fake information or “fan fiction,” but this is a truly odd situation as it appears a source has approached this particular subreddit’s mod team and they were able to authenticate the validity to a point where they are confident enough to post a PSA saying a version of Justice League assembled by Zack Snyder exists in an “unfinished but notable state” they refer to as “a rough version that had a lot of finished FX and music.”

Based on the description, it sounds like this is not the previously reported “assembly” cut, but something that had significantly more work put into it. Previous rumors have said Zack Snyder screened a cut of the movie that was considered “unwatchable” by Warner Bros. executives before Joss Whedon came along, suggesting maybe what was screened was more complete than an early assembly cut, or maybe WB had work continue on Snyder’s cut in tandem with Whedon’s reshoots hoping to choose between two versions of the film, ultimately going with Whedon’s. Whatever the situation is behind the scenes, it’s becoming more clear that it was anything but normal, and with a number of sources coming forward to leak deleted scenes and reveal additional information, this likely won’t be the last we hear about Justice League’s troubled production or the potential of a Zack Snyder cut.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the mod team in question is lying. They plug an updated version of the Zack Snyder petition (which is about to pass 150,000 signatures) in the post and carefully take effort to explain its purpose and circumstances, so it’s understandable that some may assume they’re simply attempting to drum up more attention for more signatures, but that would be a major ethical violation and breach of trust, which such a team like this is in place to prevent in the first place.

Until anything more definitive is released, as we’re sure it will be eventually, we can only take news like this with a grain of salt, however, the abnormal method of verification in this case definitely changes the narrative, but possibly in a way that muddies the water moreso than providing a definitive proof of a Zack Snyder cut of the movie.
